//WHO IS GOOD CHARLOTTE?
But, OK, let's deal. What if you were stranded in the deep jungles of Africa with no food, no clothes, and no water? Worst case scenario, right? Well, similarly, it is ALSO a worst case scenario if you don't know who Good Charlotte is. Oh, you poor, deprived human being. To be short, Good Charlotte is one of the newest and freshest sounds of rock/punk to date. They hail from Maryland, the Waldorf/Annapolis/DC areas and their sound is one of Rancid or New Found Glory beating the stuffing out of the Ataris, or perhaps Jimmy Eat World overdosing on electric guitar. Sometimes they are just sweet, adorable, and innocent young guys, with a sense of humor, a touch of frailty, and the less than surreal background of their past lingering silently on their shoulders. Other times, they are hard-faced, no-nonsense punks bent on making a statement, refusing to give in, and opposing (and even mocking)
everything mainstream. Yes, they are quite the bunch, this Mest/The Used/Rancid-influenced fivesome.
--> Joel Madden does lead vocals,
--> Benji Madden does back-up vocals and guitar,
--> Billy Martin does guitar,
--> Paul Thomas does bass, and
--> Chris Wilson does drums.

//THEY GOT LOOKS, ...BUT TALENT, TOO?
Yes, indeed. They do. Regarding their actual talent and musical capability, let's just say that their 2nd album 'The Young and the Hopeless' was one of the best-selling albums for the months that it was initially released. It sold exceedingly well, especially for a band that previously had had only a few close followers. Good Charlotte has catapulted onto the music scene. Their style is reminiscent of their own favorite bands, which is in a way very, very cute, and in a way, pays 'tribute' to those bands by using similar techniques and rhythms ('similar' because GC, of course, adds their own touch). For a band relatively young compared to the legends of the same genre, Good Charlotte is doing MORE than awesome. Their style is classic, their attitude is authentic, and their technique is professional - professional punk, that is!
//ARE THEY 'ONE-HIT WONDERS'?
By NO means! Their hit singles, some of which include 'The Anthem', 'Wondering', 'Girls and Boys', 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous', and the teen-angst-anthem 'Little Things' have made GC a well-known band, respected not only by the fans to whom they give so much love and respect (and who adore them in return), but by the very bands/musicians they idolized and dreamt of being back when they were "nobodies". As brothers, Benji and Joel, the founders of the group, endured a harsh childhood strewn with recollections of poverty, occasional faithlessness, and horrible holidays. As fledglings, they endured ridicule from their peers, who bullied and taunted them. But as a band, they made it through everything together, and still came out on-top - devout, drug-free, and devoted-to-Mom. With their dedication and determination, it's not difficult to see why Good Charlotte completely and utterly ROCKS.
